Attachment theory explains the dynamics of lasting relationships between humans, particularly as in families and long time friends. The most significant theory is the one that, an infant needs to build up a relationship on one primary caregiver. Attachment goes round through the fields of psychological, evolutionary, and ethological theories. Therefore the infant relies on caregiver who helps him to discover the world. The components of health attachments are safe haven, secure base, and separation distress. Safe haven is whereby when the child is endangered, he or she runs to the caregiver for consolation and comforting. Secure Base is the situation when the care giver provides a safe and reliable base for the child to learn about the environment. There is also Separation Distress; this is where the child becomes unhappy and saddened when separated from the caregiver.

Attachment is an arousing union towards another person. Attachment is described by psychologist John Bowlby, who was the attachment theory pioneer, as a “lasting psychological connectedness between human beings” (Bowlby and Ainsworth, 1969, p. 194). Bowlby supposed that the earliest unions created by children to their caregivers have great impacts that go on throughout one’s life. According to Bowlby, attachment also helps to bring the infant closer to the mother, therefore boosting the child’s survival chances.

According to the experiments, Ainsworth explained three main methods of attachment: secure attachment, ambivalent-insecure attachment, and avoidant-insecure attachment. Since that time some of the studies have agreed with Ainsworth’s attachment methods and have shown that attachment methods have also an impact on later behaviors. Parents and caregivers can assist to promote attachment with their children by showing more love and concern to the baby.
