The day when the whole country is mourning… The day when one of the biggest from the point of number of victims and the most horrifying from the point of moral issues terroristic act broke not only the buildings of the Pentagon in Washington DC and the Twin Towers in New York, but humans’ hearts, too.
September 11, is marked in American history as Patriot Day, which has been annually observed since the 2001, the year of terroristic act on the premises of the USA. Four hijacked planes were deliberately directed to destroy two buildings known as the Pentagon and the Twin Towers and to bring damage to the state of Pennsylvania. Lives of nearly 3000 people were taken just in a few minutes, leaving afterwards an immense feeling of horror, despair and grief as well as unfavorable economic impact on each citizen and the country in general.
Traditions of Patriot Day
On this day it is accepted to display the American flag outside the houses of Americans and all the most important state buildings like the White House. To observe Patriot Day and to commemorate those, who died during the attack on September 11, many people also follow a moment of silence exactly at 8:46 AM. There are special church prayers devoted to the victims of 9/11. Laying flowers on the graves and visiting memorials is common on this day, too. Apart from hanging the American flag, which is one of the symbols of Patriot Day, one can see lots of pictures and videos depicturing events of September 11.
September 11, 2001 or in other words Patriot Day will forever be engraved in our memories as a day of a huge damage as well as a reminder of how strong America is in the face of even the worst attacks.
