What attributes contributes to the aggressiveness of Prostate Cancer?

Prostate cancer is believed to have been discovered in the year 1536 and it is known to be very common in the American men thus becoming the second among the leading cancer diseases globally that cause death. According to the latest statistics done by the American Cancer Society in 2011, they indicate that there are 240,890 new cases of prostrate cancer that are diagnosed while 33,720 men die of the disease. However, with the comparison of the 2011 results and that of the 2010 results done by the Prostate Cancer Research Institute, this results indicate that people diagnosed with the disease were 217,000 and 32,000 died because of the prostate cancer. It is because of this reasons that, if we compare the statistics of the two years, we can note the increment of the disease since 2010 to 2011 thus becoming a global problem because of its increase in the number of patients diagnosed with it. The American Cancer Society statistics further indicate that 2 million men in the United States who have the prostrate cancer are still alive up to date.

Nevertheless, ever since its discovery, the disease has been known to be a cancerous tumor which has some cells that emanate from the prostate gland that is located near the bladder a process known as adenocarcinoma. This tumor is known to grow at a very slow pace, hiding itself on the glands for many years and most of the affected men die at an old age without even having the slightest knowledge of them having the disease. During this period, some symptoms or even none might be identified. Some of these symptoms of the prostate cancer can be classified either to be internal or external.

Apart from the internal symptoms, the external symptoms of the prostate cancer can be the abnormalities in a person. Aggressive prostrate cancer seems to be the worst case because of its growth as compared to other prostate cancerous diseases. The Aggressive prostate cancer seems to grow rapidly thus causing some defects such as life expectancy in men. This disease is easily identified and the only way to determine this aggressive prostate cancer is through Gleason Score. Gleason Score enables the physicians to be aware of the stage of such a disease and what action to be undertaken afterwards in terms of the cure. Some of the signs that can be seen of the prostrate cancer are when the shape and size of the prostate gland cells changes or altered, this kind of process is known as Prostatic Intraepithelial Neoplasia (PIN).

With this kind of cancer if not detected earlier and given early curative medicines, then it means that it will not only affect the prostate gland but it will also spread to the other parts of the body tissues that surrounds the affected area. Some of the tissues can be the lungs, bones and the liver.

Symptoms of prostrate Cancer

It has been known that, in most cases, during the early stages of prostate cancer, it becomes a challenge in identifying the symptoms. Most men become aware of the disease due to numerous check-ups of diseases or blood test. However, for those whom their symptoms are seen at most in the early stages, they posses some symptoms such as urinating every now and then during the day and night but mostly at night, at times, some difficulties when urinating or might find it difficult to keep on urinating the moment he has started to urinate. This scenario normally happens due to the enlargement of the cancer hence pressing on the urethra. other symptoms are such as there maybe some blood in the urine, some pain or the burning when urinating and this is due to the enlargement of the tumor thus blocking the flow of urine, painful ejaculation even though it is considered not to be a very serious case and achieving or maintenance of the ejaculation becomes difficult to men even though it is also seen not to be a serious condition.

Patients with the aggressive prostate cancer pose their own symptoms also. To them, they feel some pain in the bones and often in the spine, pelvis or ribs, pain on the proximal part of the femur, weakness in the leg, fecal incontinence and urinary incontinence. Nevertheless, both of this normally happens when cancer has spread to the spine thus compressing the cord. The symptoms of such diseases can be witnessed when a person feels that he has got some fatigue, malaise and the weight loss.

Attributes of prostate cancer

There are no real known reasons to justify on the causes of cancer but there are some possible factors that are meant to be the causes of the cancer. These factors are such as the age, genetics, race, lifestyle, medications, diet, STDs and many more. Talking of age, it is considered to be the main factor of the prostate cancer. Since this disease is known to take quite some period to be detected, then it means the age bracket that is in the high risk of this disease is the old men especially those who have reached the age of 50.

Inheritance of genes can also be another factor and it normally happens in a given race of the people. For instance, when we look at the population of the American people, we can easily conclude that this problem is more among the Afro-Americans as compared to White-Americans. Another set of people who are also at a high risk of the prostate cancer are those people born to be identical twins and finally, a man whom that problem existed within the family,  for instance his brother or father had similar problem before, is also at the high risk of developing the problem.

When it comes to the Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs), those men suffering from gonorrhea are known to be in the high risk of developing prostate cancer. Finally, the testosterone which is the male hormone that is released by the testicles are known to stimulate both the normal prostate and prostate cancer cells hence putting one in a big risk. That is why those hormones are known to be the biggest contributing factor of the development and growth prostate cancer.

When we look at the diet, it is believed that the Mediterranean diet can reduce the prostate cancer development in men while other studies indicate that soy, selenium and green tea can be part and parcel of the disease prevention. Some researches indicate that high consumption of fruits and vegetables and the lower intake of meat and processed foods can be the contributing factors of the reduction of certain types of cancers, prostate cancer being one of them.

Exercises for those suffering from the disease can lower the likelihood of them dying earlier because of the prostate disease. This is because of the new researches that have been undertaken. Patients are advised to at least take a three hour a week of doing exercises for the improvement of the prognosis among such patients.

Screening tests of the prostate cancer

These kinds of tests are normally performed to detect early stage diseases of the prostate cancer. When doing the test and the result comes out to be normally, then this is a sure justification of that, there is the likelihood that the disease does not exist but in some cases where the outcome of the testing is abnormal, then it means that the patient is considered to be suffering from the prostate cancer. This encourages more tests to confirm the suspicion. The two screening tests that are used for these examinations are such as the digital rectal and the Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) normally used for blood tests.

When performing the digital rectal examination, the prostate glands are normally felt by the doctor using of his gloved index finger in the rectum. This method is meant to detect the gland abnormalities. During the test, if a lump is felt, then it means the results are positive and special attention is needed. In the PSA test, the prostate cancer specific antigens that are released from the prostate gland to the blood are tested. This test is known to be very simple and an accurate method to be used in the detection of the disease in a prostate cancer patient. However, it is recommended that those men with the hereditary problem should consider evaluating themselves regularly of annually.

Treatment for prostate cancer

During the early stage of the prostate cancer, this problem needs to be contained before it explodes to other parts of the body organs. This can be managed through watchful waiting whereby, there is the regular monitoring of the PSA blood levels, radical prostatectomy through the means of surgery, brachytherapy and this involves the implantation of the radio active seeds into the prostate. Another way is the conformal radiotherapy whereby there is the shaping of the radiation beams so that the concentrated region is almost close to the same shape as the region that needs some observations and treatment hence reducing the tissue exposure to the radiations.

In conclusion, prostate cancer is a challenge to most affected men globally. When one discovers that he is suffering from the disease, it kills the person’s ego thus making him feel he is unworthy. Earlier discovery of the problem can be of help so as to avoid issues such as the disease moving to other territories in the human body such as bones, pelvic and many others. Factors that seem to bring this problem need to be looked upon very careful and earlier treatment and some exercise are very important to the prostate cancer person.
