Teaching Career

Teaching job is one of the most pressurizing careers in the entire world. It automatically requires one to be intellectually sharp in all perspectives (Moulthrop, Calegari &Eggers). A number of issues contributes to this career being hectic and even some of the best teachers have not been in a position to deal with this. These are issues which are found in public and private learning institutions (Moulthrop, Calegari &Eggers). In this educational article, I shall analyze the rewards and disadvantages of this career citing reference from the article "look dad, my biology teacher is selling stereos at circuit city" by Daniel Moulthrop, Ninive Clements Calegari, and Dave Eggers. These three have had expertise working as instructors and they help individuals to know the kind of lives teachers are living and the big sacrifice these important people make to be instructors (Moulthrop, Calegari &Eggers).

In the text, which is divided in four parts, the authors have used first hand experiences as a basis for describing a wide range of issues teachers face every day. The authors also involved other teachers in the United States in order to get more information. In the text, they deduce that, although there are more problems than good things that come with this profession, there is however, something to smile about (Moulthrop, Calegari &Eggers).

To begin with, one is found in a job that demands thinking all the time. A quick thinker is what you can call a teacher and nothing short of that. A teacher is expected to think fast and widely when explaining as concept to his learners. When a situation arises in class or anywhere in the learning environment, learners always look upon instructors to offer a solution. This calls for quick thinking (Moulthrop, Calegari &Eggers).

Another positive thing that these former educators observe is that, a teacher experiences a new day everyday. A Teacher meets new teenagers every year and enjoys a good part of his time together. It is so satisfying for a teacher to see the young learners grab new concepts everyday and each day the teacher feels as if he is young in his inner soul (Moulthrop, Calegari &Eggers).

The authors also argue that, for people who cherish and likes being close to their families, teaching is probably the best choice for a career. A teacher does not necessarily have to be in school all the day and the number of working hours in a given day ranges from six to eight hours. This allows one to have time for the family. In addition to that, the vacation is relatively long which is something not found in many careers (Moulthrop, Calegari &Eggers).

They also observe that, a teacher influences young people lives in a positive way and they automatically become their heroes and mentors. When teachers take their time with young people all around the year, they have an impact on their growth and development in all perspectives. Many of these teenagers cannot forget their instructors even after they are out of school as they enable them to learn new things which assist them in their entire life (Moulthrop, Calegari &Eggers).

A number of disadvantages have been associated with this career of teaching. The authors observe that, it is unfortunate that for a teacher unlike in other careers, one is not allowed to select the customer of his choice (Moulthrop, Calegari &Eggers). Teaching career is a service to all stuff. They continue to say that, even the worst criminals out there, still had a teacher. Teaching is a vocational thing that calls for a lot of patience because one has to put up even with the rudest learners who cannot grab a concept however much one tries.

The next disadvantage of this career and perhaps one of the greatest is the low pay. In their text, using Jonathan Dearman the authors focuses on how meager pay have a great impact on the teacher’s  morale alongside having to put up with low standards of living (Moulthrop, Calegari &Eggers). Dearman, just like many teachers out there, had to go out of his way to do other side hustles to feed his family. They continue to observe that, teaching should be taken with seriousness just like any other career out there.

Another sucking disadvantage is disciplining limits put on instructors. In most public and private schools in the United States, corporal punishment on students has been scrapped off. This not withstanding, there are still some school where a teacher cannot even suspend a rude student from class (Moulthrop, Calegari &Eggers). The authors observe that, this is very rampant in many private schools. When this happens, a teacher cannot have control over the learners making it very difficult to give the best. This also leads to learners disrespecting the teacher as no action can be taken against them by the teacher in question. The authors warn that, discipline is a major requirement for any learning to effectively take place.

Another disadvantage that comes with teaching and something that any teacher cannot avoid is dealing with stubborn parents and guardians. The three authors observe that, even those guardians who are not worked up might prove very hard to deal with (Moulthrop, Calegari &Eggers). When a parent comes harassing a teacher it can sometimes have a great impact on the teacher learner relationship. Although the authors observes that teachers are not supposed to keep a grudge between them and learners it can sometime be difficult. Teachers deal with as wide range of issues especially on grades scored by their children. In order to overcome this, these experts observes that, a good teacher should over time develop good skills to handle parents (Moulthrop, Calegari &Eggers).

In conclusion, the three authors deduce that, the text is meant to highlight issues affecting teachers so as to stimulate debates on how to improve on these conditions. They also have a strong message for those who want to take up the career to read the book so as o have an insight of what to expect in this vocational career (Moulthrop, Calegari & Eggers).
