The population approach in most cases do not brings out the difference between individuals at high risk and those at low or no risks at all. It also helps one to avoid weight –related diseases like, heart disease, some cancer and diabetes. For someone to maintain his/her weight he/she should make sure that the calories he/she eats is equal to the energy he/she burns. The criteria for weight loss for health include: one should take low-calorie food, take small portion of food, avoid sugar drinks and instead take water and finally do exercise regularly.

Conclusion

The main objectives of practicing health promotion and disease prevention activities like smoking cessation, weight loss, avoiding taking of alcohol, doing exercise and practicing safe sex is to make patient at large who are at risk to improve in their behavior so that to alleviate these risks. Hence, this will lead to health promotion and disease prevention in our society. On the other hand, one does not require losing all his or her excess weight in order to enjoy some of the benefits that come as a result of weight loss for health. By losing just five to ten percent of the weight one will be in the position of reducing the diseases associated with weight.
